Our Failover product provides virtual standby servers and workstations for Disaster Recovery. These systems, which are replicas of those in the customer environment, are configured in VLANs to provide the same connections to database servers and email servers as exist in the customer’s primary environment.

In the event of a disaster, we switch on your servers and workstations as Virtual Machines in our data center and provide secure remote access to all users. Your operations can continue from anywhere you can connect to the internet.

 

Comprehensive Failover Solution Plan

 

  1. Global Data Vault creates a complete backup of each server and each protected workstation in our data center infrastructure in Dallas. An initial backup is done at the customer site by downloading a small Java client application. Depending on the amount of data on the machine to be protected and the available bandwidth, the backup can either be transmitted to the GDV data center in Dallas over the internet or saved to a removable local storage device which is then sent by courier. In either event, all subsequent backups are done over the internet.
  2. Each server or workstation workload is then converted to a Virtual Machine and connected to a VLAN matching the customer’s environment. A dedicated virtual firewall/VPN appliance is included as part of the customer network.
  3. Using only a thin Java client on the customer systems, continuous data protection (CDP) is implemented keeping the customer machine synchronized with the replica in the data center. The CDP solution also saves previous copies of data remotely, so when changes occur in the user environment, each change is retained in GDV’s data center. That enables roll-back to multiple different points in time.
  4. In the event of a loss or disaster, the virtual servers in GDV’s data center are powered on, a short and final incremental restore is undertaken, and then the users and users access their applications and data through a secure Virtual Private Network (VPN).
