What is Virtual Disaster Recovery?

Virtual Disaster Recovery is a means to provide a quick restoration of your IT environment at an alternate location. It is a highly cost effective alternative to building a full disaster recovery site.

Why do you call it "Virtual"?

With Global datavault's Virtual Disaster Recovery, you don't need to build a Disaster Recovery site. Using virtualized servers which run your operating systems, we build everything for you "virtually".

What is the advantage?

There is no other way to get back up and running after a major hardware failure or a site disaster - without spending much more money.

How does it work?

  1. Global datavault creates virtual server images - when you sign-up for the service, we'll contact you and build server images for all of your mission critical systems. These servers will reside in our data center. You can log on and test them periodically - and at a minimum, we'll test them every 3 months.
  2. Global datavault keeps the stand-by server up-to-date using our Online backup service or a real-time replication strategy.
  3. In the event of a disaster, we'll help you restore your data to the virtual servers in our data center. The restore happens locally within our data center, so it is accomplished quickly.
  4. Finally we'll provide access to our servers for your users through a secure Virtual Private Network.
  5. Depending on the number of servers involved in a site disaster, this "Failover" process is usually accomplished in one to two hours and rarely more than four hours.
