Tips to increase the security, restorability, and resiliency of your data with Global Data Vault
Always know your password. Too often business owners will not keep a personal record of their GDV passwords. Knowing all passwords related to an account, past and present, is the surest way to a successful restore. Please see our section on
Password Changes and Forgotten Passwords.
Do a test restore periodically. Schedule a time once a month to test the restore process. Customers should regularly run test restores to ensure that the data is recoverable. Any number of factors can come into play that could compromise your ability to restore, including negligent employees or outsourced IT companies, special conditions surrounding a password change, or not consulting directly with a Global Data Vault technical specialist when setting up account encryption.
Always keep an offsite and a local copy of your data. Global Data Vault allows for both local and offsite backups. Customers who already take advantage of offsite backups can take advantage of the local feature, adding even more security and resiliency. Enable and schedule a local copy backup at a time when your offsite backup isn’t running. You can even point the local backup to an external drive.
Consult a Global Data Vault technical support specialist. In the event of a disaster or data loss, please consult with a GDV technical support specialist before attempting a non-routine restore, so that a full evaluation can be made of the situation and appropriate advice can be given to ensure a successful restore.
