FAQ About Quotas

My account has exceeded quota. What does that mean?

Accounts are allowed to store and retain a certain amount of data. When an account exceeds the set quota, the scheduled backups will be interrupted. Quotas can be monitored as follows:

1. Login to the GDV backup client with the correct user name and password.

2. At the bottom of the window, the quota will be displayed as follows: Quota (Remaining / Total): x G / y G.

Will my quota be increased automatically?

Yes. When an account reaches 88% or more of its quota, Global Data Vault will automatically increase the quota to accommodate the increasing storage. The increase is intended to prevent the possible disruption of backups. A notification of a settings change is sent to the email on file (the same email that receives the backup report logs), and in some cases, a secondary email from customer support follows.

How does quota affect my bill?

Because billing is based on storage amount, quotas are determined by price plan or by customer request. Accounts that exceed quota will see an increase in the next bill unless measures are taken to reduce the storage. Still, accounts are only charged for usage regardless of the set quota. In some cases, account holders will request a quota in the $49.95 range but only use $19.95 in space. The bill will still only be $19.95. In other cases, a customer might request a specific quota as a means to manage their billing; non-profit companies tend to watch their budget closely and need notification when an increase in quota occurs.

How do I increase my quota?

To increase your quota, please contact Customer Service at 1-866-963-1900 Opt. 3 and have your user name and password available.

How do I decrease the amount of storage that I upload and retain?

1. The best way to reduce your storage amount is to deselect unwanted files or directories from your backup set(s). Please visit http://www.globaldatavault.com/file-locations.htm for ideas on how to minimize your data selections.

2. To reduce the amount of data you keep in retention, please visit http://www.globaldatavault.com/archiving-data.htm for tips on how to set your retention policy.

3. Although technical support cannot create and manage an account’s backup set on behalf of the customer, assistance is available at 1-866-963-1900 Opt. 2 if the customer doesn’t understand the process of deselection.

What happens to the data stored on your server if I deselect it?

The deselected data will fall into retention and remain there for the length of time as defined by the retention policy set on the account. When the allotted time expires, the data will delete permanently from GDV’s server(s).
