Web Server
A web server is a computer which is connected to the internet and used to store and display web pages and web sites to internet visitors. The most common web server platforms are IIS from Microsoft and the open source platform Apache. Hundreds or thousands of users can connect to a web server simultaneously. Operators of busy web sites often use an entire network of servers to function as a web server which can serve up a single high traffic site or alternatively many smaller sites.
