Bring it Zombies! Our Disaster Recovery Plan is Ready

disaaultata Take deep breaths.

I can see you shaking after listening to the forecast of events which may in fact, threaten our very human existence.

The world is ending this afternoon.

And if by some miracle we make it through that rapturous event, we’re surely going to be gobbled up during the Zombie Apocalypse. This is not good news. Not good at all.

As with all good Hollywood endings, a few of us may actually band together to slay the Zombies, living to tell about the horrific gruesome battle. In which case if you plan to have a front seat on the survivor bus, you had better make sure that your business has been adequately protected for those dark days ahead. It’s Darwinian theory at it’s finest.

Okay, so tongue in cheek aside, the message from the CDC is sound. Are you prepared with your ghoul survival guidelines? And what about your company?

First of all, you need to have a communications plan in place for your employees and key executives. How will you contact each other in the event of a crypt keeper visit? Or other more likely event such as a tornado, hurricane, earthquake or flood.

Then, it’s uber-imperative that you have to have a strategy for business continuity. Prior to that pesky apocalypse, you should have implemented an online backup system where you corporate data has been automatically and routinely stored in an off-site facility – away from the zombs. You want to make sure that this backup has the ability for remote access so that you and your employees can log in on the run.

Because I mean really. We’ve seen the movies and those Zombies are pretty darn nimble when it comes right down to it so you may need to establish a new worksite on the fly. And by remote access, we mean that you have full recovery of your applications and programs – not just your data. What’s the point of data if you can’t do anything with it, right?

And lastly, do a test prior to the end of the world. Online back up is like insurance. You want to verify that your backups are working, right? You don’t need it until you NEED it, and then it is mission-critical. So do yourself a favor and make sure that you use a company like Global Data Vault that routinely tests to ensure your data is correctly being stored.

So consider yourself forewarned of the disastrous Oscar-worthy events to come. But in all seriousness, safeguarding your business intelligence from natural disasters is what we do with a vengeance. Protecting your company livelihood from fires and floods and even — the ghouls of the night.
